Architect & product designer

Michaela Hu

My city, through an architect’s eyes.

Chengdu / Mandarin

I’m Michaela, an architect who grew up in Chengdu. I tend to notice the things a building quietly tells us: how it meets the street, what people do around it, and how it holds on to a little of the city’s past.

Hong Kong has also been home, and my travels have taken me to 45 countries. Seeing so many different places has given me new ways to look at the one I know best. I am still curious about how Chengdu changes, and about the stories that remain beneath its new buildings.

I previously served as design director at a publicly listed company and have designed many buildings myself. I enjoy sharing the thinking behind a design, as well as the stories behind the buildings we encounter. You do not need an architectural background to join the conversation.

My work also extends to product design. Some of the products I have created have been warmly received overseas. I would be happy to share those experiences too: how an idea begins, how it takes shape, and what we learn along the way.

I would love to show you both the Chengdu I grew up in and the city I see as a designer. We can look at the buildings that catch your eye, explore the neighbourhoods around them, and make time for the small details that give a place its character. Bring your curiosity, and let’s discover the stories together.
