Rather than focusing mainly on architectural styles, your host uses the neighborhood around you to explain how Shanghai people have lived here, how older housing differs from modern apartments, where residents shop for everyday necessities and how redevelopment is reshaping familiar streets. Depending on the route and opening hours, you may also pass a local market, neighborhood store or community gathering space.

The experience stays in public-access areas and treats the neighborhood as a living community, not a display. There is no promised entry into private homes and no staged interaction with residents.
